The State History Museum of Kyrgyzstan was founded in 1926. Previously, it was called the Lenin Museum and was the first scientific institution of the country. The current name of the museum was in 1954. The opening of the first exhibition took place on March 5, 1927. The area of the institution is 8 thousand square meters, it has more than 90 thousand exhibits. The museum is considered to be one of the largest in Central Asia. It is located in the main square of Bishkek. The museum has a huge ethnographic collection of items from the 19th and 20th centuries: articles of national dress, knitted and embroidered products, works of kyrgyz artists made of leather, felt and wood, traditional women's jewelry. Bronze age objects, rocks with rock drawings, utensils of the nomads of the 1-5th millennium AD, Talas stones with runic inscriptions of ancient kyrgyzs, an extensive collection of ancient coins and a lot of ancient glass, ceramic and metal objects, including jewelry horse harness. The institution enjoys great popularity among tourists and history buffs. During the excursion to the museum, it is preferable to use the services of a full-time guide who will introduce you to the world of historical relics and answer the questions of interest.
