This wonderful piece of wooden architecture – the Holy Trinity Cathedral – is a praying place for Orthodox Christians. The temple was raised in Karakol. There is a miracle-working icon of Holy Mother named Tikhvin. It was created in 1897 in the Exaltation of the Holy Cross Monastery on the holy Athon Mountain.
In 1863 there was a temporary felt temple in the shape of yurt. In 1865 it was replaced by a small wooden church which burnt down in the 1870s. In 1876 started the construction of a new monastery where the burnt bricks were used. Unfortunately, it was destroyed by the earthquake in 1889. After the fifteen years the local Orthodox builders built the present Cathedral.
