Kel-Suu Lake is one of the most beautiful and unique Alpine lakes in Kyrgyzstan. It is located at an altitude of about 3600 meters above sea level, in the upper reaches of the river Korumdu, right tributary of the river Kok-Kiya, near the border with China.
The length of the lake Kel-Suu is about 10.5 km.; width varies from 0.5 - 2 km; water surface area is 4.5 sq. km; in some places the depth reaches 10 meters. The lake water is fresh, the water temperature in summer ranges from 6-8 °C. Under the influence of the cold mountain climate, summer here is short and lasts from mid-July to mid-August. The air temperature rises from 14-16 °C, and at night falls below zero.
The uniqueness of the lake is determined by its origin. The lake looks like a winding canyon, was formed by a strong earthquake, which collapsed the mountain at the direction of the flowing river. Therefore, the lake is surrounded by sheer cliffs hundreds of meters high. These rocks have a freakish relief, and dotted with numerous caves and recesses.
The main cave is located on the right side of the dam. A narrow entrance leads into a large and high hall, in the depth there is exaltation a throne. The walls of the cave has an unusual texture and decorated with water crystals. After the rain into the lake flow down turbulent waterfalls. Depending on the weather and lighting, the surface of Kel-Suu gets all shades of green, it has pale turquoise shade during the sunny weather, and dull shade during the cold weather.
